Membership is open to male and female young adults, who are between the ages 16–20 and of good moral standing. Take the assement below to see if you meet all of our guidelines.

Are you between the ages of 16 and 20?
Are you currently attending highschool, a recent graduate or have a G.E.D.?
Do you have currently or graduated with a 2.0 or C average in school?
Are you a US citizen or a US Permanent Resident Alien?
Are you in good physical and mental health?
Are you willing to submit to a background investigation that will include a polygraph and drug screen?
If you are a minor, can you obtain your parent’s approval and signature on a general liability release form and medical waiver?

Being an LVMPD Explorer takes commitment
In order to effectively prepare for a successful experience, we strongly urge prospective members to begin memorizing our department’s radio codes, dispositions and phonetic alphabet. Explorers will be tested on these codes verbatim and must have them fully memorized to remain eligible for the program.

I.D.F. 400 CodesPhysical fitness exam
Physical fitness is paramount to BE a successful Officer
Police and Corrections explorers must pass the Nevada POST fitness standards twice each year to remain eligible in the program. We highly suggest that prospective members begin and maintain a physical fitness regimen.

Vertical Jump
Minimum of a 14 inch jump.

Agility Run
Completed start to finish in 19.5 seconds or less.

Sit up
30 correct repetitions in 1 minute

1.5 Mile Run
Completed start to finish in 16 minutes 57 seconds or less.

Push Up
23 correct repetitions with no time limit.

300 meter run
Completed start to finish in 68 seconds or less.
Physical Exam
In order to be eligible for the program, all prospective explorers are required to obtain medical clearance by a licensed healthcare provider prior to beginning. Our Explorer Participation Physical Evaluation (PPE) helps identify if a candidate is fit both mentally and physically for our program.
Candidates must download the PPE packet. The completed packet must be turned in at the orientation meeting in a sealed envelope.
Prospective members are responsible for costs & scheduling associated with the PPE.
This Physical Exam (PPE) is designed to evaluate:

- • Risk of Injury
- • Medical conditions
- • Physical limitations
